Figma

Figma is a professional cloud-based tool for designing user interfaces (UI), creating wireframes, prototyping and managing design systems. Unlike traditional desktop tools, Figma runs directly in the browser and allows multiple people to work on the same project in real time — much like Google Docs for documents. Figma has become the de facto standard in web and application design and is used by most designers and development teams around the world today, including us at Appitect.

    Figma's main features

Figma offers a complete suite of design tools: a vector editor for creating icons and illustrations, a component system for reusable elements (buttons, cards, forms), auto-layout for automatic alignment, a prototyping mode for creating interactive prototypes, dev mode for developers (CSS values, dimensions, padding) and management of design tokens (colours, typography, spacing). Everything runs in the cloud, so there's nothing to install.

Why Figma is the design standard

Figma has replaced older tools such as Sketch and Adobe XD thanks to several advantages: real-time collaboration (designer, developer and client work on the same file simultaneously), cross-platform availability (works on Windows, Mac and Linux through the browser), a rich ecosystem of plugins and community resources, and a generous free plan for small teams. On top of that, you don't have to email files around — you share a link and everyone sees the current version.

    Figma in our workflow

At Appitect we use Figma as the central tool for the entire design process. We start with wireframes, move on to visual design and finish with interactive prototypes — all in one tool. The client gets access to the project and can leave comments directly in Figma on the designs. The developer then sees the exact dimensions, colours and CSS values of every element in dev mode. This workflow eliminates misunderstandings and ensures the final website matches the approved design.

    Figma for non-technical users

Although Figma is primarily a designer's tool, viewing and commenting in it is intuitive even for non-technical users. As a client you can browse designs, switch between pages, click through the prototype and leave comments precisely on the element they relate to. There's nothing to install — just open the link in your browser. As a result, feedback is fast, accurate and clear for the whole team.

    Practical example

When designing an e-shop for a food-industry client we built a complete design system in Figma: 60+ components (product cards, filters, checkout flow, user account), responsive versions for mobile and desktop, and an interactive prototype of the whole purchase journey. The client clicked through the prototype on their mobile and suggested tweaks that we incorporated within an hour. The development team then converted the design to code precisely from Figma thanks to dev mode, which gave them all the specifications they needed.
